The last month of 2023 and the first of 2024 has been a whirlwind, so I’m finally getting around to my first blog post of the year. Generally, this time of the year is a slump for me, but surprisingly, I’ve been able to get a lot done—a nice remedy to the insatiable desire to be productive.
As I start to slow down the creative process this new month, I figured I’d take the time to share some of the works I’ve completed, primarily visual arts—a culmination of scenes and some designs.
Below are a few "scenes" using my latest digital style. Even though I sometimes fear the style has too slow an execution, I'm glad with how they turned out.
A drawing I made for an art contest. This entry ended up in first place!
A portrait of a character with futuristic holograms contrasting with an older style of attire.
A portrait of a character with wings, one morphing into some black substance with eyes.
A portrait of the same character as no.3, looking at a touchable hologram.
A commission for the small cafe business, G. Rabbit, using their rabbit logo and a dragon for the new year.
Next, I've done some concept drawings with a focus on functional character design. As a writer who is planning heavily for the Sooted Star novel, it helps to have these reference sheets to keep track of the basics. I plan to do a lot more of these in the coming months, which may hinder my writing a bit, but it's worth it to me for the sake of my memory.
That's about all for now. It's time for a little break before diving into more designs, drawings, and writing this month.
Take care of yourself this year, and I wish you all the best.
A. "Jaecadin" V.B.
